According to research conducted by CBC News, only 3 out of 10 technicians who may come to your home actually know what they are doing. This is not just a sorry state of affairs, it’s downright scary!

One reason Gayle decided to offer on-site (as well as remote) PC support is because older women feel more comfortable with a female computer technician coming to their home.

PC-World found out in their undercover study of both nationwide computer service centers and small "Mom and Pop" computer shops, that somewhere around 80 or 90 percent of them either couldn't fix the problem or sold them hundreds of dollars of unneeded parts. That's eight or nine out of ten!

That's pretty sad!  RAMtech relies on referrals, word of mouth, ratings - that's because we are always rated high, praised lavishly, and can proudly say that our clients trust us (and for good reason: we ARE trustworthy souls!).  That is why we've been in business for the last 20 years.  Incompetent techs should just be publicly stoned (or... that didn't sound right, ha!).

What's the Do about SQUIDOO?

Squidoo is a website designed to make it easy for anyone, for free, to set up a single page on a topic he or she knows or cares a lot about. ...

However, what Gayle has realized is that business type people who are populating the internet with their online presence isn't patient enough to really create a nice-looking "lens" (which is what Squidoo calls their web pages). So, that's been a recent source of income for the IMAGEhost side of her business.  Along with Joomla, WordPress, Drupal and other "free, easy" (myspace, etc.), SQUIDOO is now on the list.

http://www.squidoo.com/ramtech is a "squidoo lens" to compliment the website ww.ramtechremote.com (RAMtech's virtual online technical assistant service) Also, Gayle designed a lens for Michelle Rigg - take a look!  Looks simple and easy, right?  Go ahead, create your own lens, give it a try and if you need help, email me from Squidoo lens page .

NOT Stupid

A long-time client of mine called at 10:30PM, "Gayle! My entire hard drive has been erased, please come over right now!" Usually, I go through a help call routine, trying to pin down the problem, but she INSISTED that I drive over to her home office right away because she was totally freaked out.

Ok, I didn't want to leave in the middle of Frontline, but... I threw on my fanciest sweats (turquoise colored 100% silk), and headed out 7 miles north, 1 mile east, across the Rio Grande river, and down the little dirt lane to her house. Sigh.

She greeted me with a big hug, a cup of coffee (all my clients know to have hot coffee ready for me!), and tearfully led me to her now-totally-erased-computer. She said she was working on an important proposal and all of the sudden the screen went completely blank, and she is sure a virus erased her whole computer.

I asked her a few questions and somehow that guided my hand to the power switch on the monitor. I turned on the monitor and like magic, her entire hard drive was recovered instantly.

Needless to say, she was very apologetic. I often get the "I feel sooooooooooo stupid" lament when it comes to computer stuff, but, sometimes, not too often, I feel like a stupid technician. So, I said, in a comforting sort of way, "I feel stupid for not asking you to check power, cables, etc. before I drove over to turn on your monitor for you!!"

It's just like that sometimes.
